Katherine Evans is an American contemporary painter who resides in Connecticut. She initially began her career as a graphic designer before choosing to focus on fine art. She paints bold abstract works characterised by vivid colours and a gestural style.

Exploring colour
Evans comes from a family of artists and her first inspiration was her father, a WPA artist in San Francisco who worked on the famous Coit Tower murals. She has had a lifelong passion for visual communication and expression, which she channels into her painting. Colour interaction and its ability to elicit an emotional response are key to her work, and she is inspired by artists such as Mark Rothko and Helen Frankenthaler, who explored colour harmony.
Visual vibrations
Evans takes an intuitive approach when beginning a piece, applying complex colour combinations in order to create a ‘visual vibration’. If she discovers paintings within a painting, she crops and layers parts of the whole to build a larger composition. She works with acrylic and collage, often applying clear acrylic mediums to create depth and texture.
National success
Evans has exhibited widely in her native United States, and at several juried shows. She was chosen for a SOLOS exhibition at the Westport Arts Center by the juror Adam Weinberg, director of the Whitney Museum in New York. She has shown her work at the Spectrum Miami Art Fair and at the New Britain Museum of American Art.
