« I think we’re in an age with social media where we’re saturated with images of the face and I guess painting a portrait slows this down a little bit. »
Mia Cathart is a painter based in the UK whose works have been featured in several group exhibitions throughout the United Kingdom. Her art centers around portraits of women. Cathart works from second-hand imagery, creating tension between familiarity and anonymity. Her most recent pieces 'crop' her subjects, which she believes invites a sense of curiosity in the viewer. She paints using oils on canvas.
